The sacred secular town the auspiciously Ajmer nestles among the Aravali hills (the invincible hill). In 7th century the City was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan and became the famous defence force of the Chauhan Rajputs. The Chauhan’s dominated the region till the end of the 12th century. Ajmer is associated with many national importance in historical events.

Today, the city is a harmonious mix of different religions and cultures, which have given it an ecumenical flavour. It is a paradigm of religious harmony and communal brotherhood. This pious land has attracted Sufi saints, Hindu preachers, Jain Munis, Parsi Priests, Christian missionaries of all denominations. The Sikhs also established Singh Sabha over here.


The bazaars of ajmer teem with rajasthani artefacts ranging from silver and gold ornaments, tie & dye textiles, hand block printed textiles, embroidered jodhpuri shoes (Mojari) etc.

But, the atar (scented oil), a major speciality of ajmer was discovered here during the reign of the mughal emperor jahangir. The atar is derived from pink roses grown in and around the city. The fair of Urs is a great time for shopping. Folk artisans and craftsmen gather here and display a tempting range of intriguing and colourful items at competitive prices.

Madar gate, station road, purani mandi, naya bazar, kaisarganj, nala bazar etc.
