Dungarpur or the ‘City of Hills’ is set in the foot hills of the aravalis. The picturesque town was founded in 1282, by rawal veer singh, when he took over this part of the state from the bhil chieftain dungaria. The region abounds in teak, mahua, mango and khajur trees and is watered by mahi and som rivers. The forests teems with rich wildlife, which includes, jackal, jungle cat, Indian fox, hyena, black faced monkeys, porcupine and common mongoose etc. there is also a sizeable population of exotic birds. The commonly seen birds are partridges, peafowls, quails, cuckoos, eagles and vultures. Migratory birds also visit the region during the winters.
Dungarpur is also well known for its unique architectural style, which is well exhibited in its numeral palaces and noble houses. The gold and silver smiths of the district are famous for the lacquer painted toys and picture frames.
The nearest airport is at Udaipur (120 kms.). dungarpur is connected by rail with Udaipur and Ahmadabad. It is connect by road.
